Clary sage is a short-lived biennial/perennial native to the Mediterranean, North Africa and Central Asia. In the first year they grow a basal rosette of downy leaves that can be up to 2 to 3 feet wide. The second year, they send up a flower stalk that is 2 to 4 feet tall.

The flowers are a beautiful lavender and white, sometimes pink, and have the most intoxicating scent. As an aromatic plant, Clary Sage’s balsam scent is well known in both the worlds of perfumery and aromatherapy. Clary Sage is deemed an aphrodisiac and has broad medicinal applications as well. Clary Sage has been worked with over centuries for disorders of the kidneys, digestive complaints, menstrual disorders and other health challenges. They can be worked with in the kitchen like garden sage and will add bold flavor to baking projects. Clary sage is strikingly beautiful, beloved by bees and will be stunning in an herb garden amongst other perennials.
